Blog: Reflections on a female fight camp

As a female working in a predominantly male environment I thought it might be interesting to write an article on training away with females.
I grew up as an army child, have worked as a doorwoman for 20 years, trained in an all-male MMA team and I am the only female commissioner at BAMMA.
I am a self-confessed tomboy but I did miss having the camaraderie of that female spirit to train with. So, when I got the chance to train with an up-and-coming female at ARBJJ, I jumped at it.
What follows is my take on a 45 year old’s effort to stay in the game and keep up with some of the amazing UKMMA females.

Raged 2 – MECA, Swindon full fight review

nemoThe only mixed martial arts show in Swindon returned to MECA for its second event treating fans to twelve fights with every fight from the opening contest to the main event giving Wiltshire fight fans a top value for money evening. Here’s what went down:

Fight 1   Kevin Rodzeiwicz  Vs  Wes Thomas

Kevin Rodzeiwicz lit the fuse on the Raged 2 night with a devastating performance against Wes Thomas. With just over two minutes on the clock in the first round, Thomas attempted to slam Rozeiwicz into the canvas but, with Rodzeiwicz gaining the upper hand and landing a barrage of punches rendering Thomas unconscious on the canvas, ref Nathan Webb wisely jumped in to save Thomas from further punishment.

KO victory for one-armed fighter

nemoOn the Road with Addicted MMA were present in Swindon for Raged MMA 2 at the town’s MECA arena. The evening saw the return of Dave “Nemo” Llewellyn who took on Lee Curry.

Llewellyn is an experienced fighter and despite being born with meromelia of the right arm he was able put on an astonishing display against his opponent to take the victory. While “Nemo” is not the first fighter to compete with a disability, the video below certainly makes for one of the best performances we’ve seen in such circumstances.

WFS4: Live Results

Headlining the card is an ambitious, highly anticipated Middleweight Title contest between Jack Hermansson and Karlos Vemola for the promotion’s main event and the co-main of the evening is between incumbent champion Jefferson George and Brad Wheeler for the 155lbs belt.
