FCC 16: Fight Card and Preview

fcc16Full Contact Contender returns to it’s home at Bolton’s Macron Stadium June 18. Headlined by a pair of professional title fights at lightweight and flyweight respectively. The vacant 155lb title will be contested by returning Mick Bowman and current BCMMA and Budo champion Charlie Leary. In the co-main event FCC regular Aaron Aby welcomes top ranked UK Flyweight Andy “Taz” Young for a shot at the gold.

Team Crossface’s Charlie Leary brings a three-fight win streak to the North West including a title win in Watford last month at Budo 14.

While Leary has been active, his opponent is looking to reboot his career following a lengthy lay off and mixed fortunes since his return. Mick Bowman is a veteran of the game having been fighting professionally for most of the past decade.

The lightweight fighter tasted fame on TUF and has recently seen former team mate Michael Bisping capture world title glory at 37 years of age. 1-1 in since his return to the cage a domestic title could be just the catalyst for a career resurgence, although Charlie Leary is in peak form of late. The championship will be decided over three rounds, if they’re needed. If they are, both men will need to leave everything in the cage on June 18.

The lightweight title replaces the European and British titles held by Brendan Loughnane and Tim Wilde respectively as they have signed exclusive deals with major promotions.

The vacant flyweight title will be up for grabs in the co-main event. A regular face at FCC, Aaron Aby makes his sixth appearance in Bolton when he faces Andy “Taz” Young for the vacant belt.

This will be Aby’s first shot at a professional title against the current BCMMA flyweight champion. The MMA Academy fighter is always a popular addition to an FCC fight card, not least for his character and heart but also his continuing work to highlight Cystic Fibrosis, a condition that affects his daily life.

Young is set to face another champion at BAMMA 26 in September. Rany Saadeh, who’s only loss came at the hands of Aby’s team mate, and now Bellator fighter, Pietro Menga. To keep the allure of that fight alive, “Taz” will need to put Aby away convincingly, something the young man from Wrexham does not allow easily.

Elsewhere on the card Ashley “The Beast” Reece returns looking to move his professional record to 3-0 following a glittering amateur career. The former amateur lightweight champion moves up to welterweight for undoubtedly his toughest test so far against Martin Hudson (4-1)

Tim Barnett captured Amatuer Lightweight gold at FCC 13

Tim Barnett captured Amateur Lightweight gold at FCC 13

Another product of the FCC amateur ranks and former champion, Tim Barnett returns as a professional to take on Tomasz Wojtyna. Another of Jason Tan’s stand out students to ply his trade on the Bolton showcase, Barnett will look to establish himself as a professional after his pro debut victory came against late stand in Tyler Thomas. Wojtyna came close to amateur gold himself but missed out against another fighter on the same card, Dylan McGloughlin.

McGloughlin takes on Dan Good, a 1-1 welterweight out of Team Mahico on the professional undercard.

A feature bout is set for Next Generation’s Adam Ventre who is scheduled to face Sean Tobin at featherweight. Following a disappointing no contest in his last match up, Ventre will need to take the victory so not to sully the recent announcement of Ventre’s Main Event slot in July. Tobin will look to spoil those plan on June 18

The full FCC 16 as it stands can be found below. Details and tickets are available at will bring you full results and image galleries as always in the coming weeks.

BAMMA Heavyweight kingpin Mark Godbeer will be hoping to fire at all cylinders against the current Lonsdale Heavyweight Champion Stuart Austin and finally, the undefeated Lonsdale Champion at 155lbs, Marc Diakiese, will be making his second title defence against another undefeated fighter in Kane Mousah – a fight with a lot of animosity in the build-up.  Continue reading
